The AI SDR that
doesn't burn
your domain.

11x and Artisan ship generic AI on rented infrastructure. Your domain pays the price within 90 days. Northstar is the only AI SDR built ground-up to scale without burning your sender reputation.

They built AI SDRs.
We built the deliverability stack underneath.

Every current AI SDR — 11x, Artisan, Regie, Jason — uses third-party SMTP and generic LLM drafts. Their customers' domains get flagged within 60–90 days. Northstar is the only one that owns the entire stack.

An SDR costs you $96,000/year.
Northstar costs $18,000.

Salary ($65k) + benefits ($14k) + tools ($12k) + ramp time (3 months at zero output) = $96k/yr fully loaded. Northstar replaces that for $1,500/mo. Cancel anytime.

Why the first wave
of AI SDRs
is failing.

An essay on the unsexy infrastructure problem nobody else is solving.

SHK·Founder, Northstar·March 2026
01

The first wave of AI SDRs treated email infrastructure as a commodity.

11x raised at a $1B valuation. Artisan plastered the Bay Area with billboards. Regie signed 200 logos in twelve months. They all ship the same architecture: an OpenAI wrapper that drafts emails, plumbed into a generic SMTP relay (SendGrid, Mailgun, sometimes a tiny in-house pool of warmup IPs). The bet was that drafting was the hard part. It wasn't. Drafting is now a feature of a $20/mo Anthropic API key. Distribution — landing in the inbox, day after day, without getting flagged — is the part nobody solved.

02

Spam filters now fingerprint AI-generated outbound at the infrastructure level.

In 2024, Google's Postmaster Tools rolled out signal weighting that explicitly down-ranks "templated cadence patterns from non-resident infrastructure." Microsoft's Defender for Office 365 followed in early 2025. The filters do not look at your subject line. They look at the IP's sending history, the cadence pattern, the headers, the warmup signature. AI SDR products that share infrastructure share a fingerprint. One bad actor in the pool poisons the well for everyone.

03

Customers who scaled with these tools are watching their domains die at month three.

Read the G2 reviews. Read the Reddit threads. The pattern repeats: month one, "amazing, booked 8 meetings." Month two, "open rates dropping." Month three, "we're in spam, support is unhelpful, we had to rotate domains." This is not a product bug — it is the inevitable outcome of building an AI SDR on top of rented, shared infrastructure that fundamentally cannot survive sustained outbound volume. The faster you scale, the faster you burn.

04

The fix is not "better AI." It's owning the deliverability stack.

You cannot prompt your way out of a flagged IP range. You cannot fine-tune a model into better DNS records. The only path forward is to own the layer below the LLM — the IPs, the warmup network, the per-send scoring, the volume governor. This is unsexy infrastructure work. It is also the only thing that matters if you are running outbound at any meaningful scale.

05

Northstar is the only AI SDR built ground-up around this insight.

We do not rent SendGrid. We own pooled IPs across three regions, warmed against a private mesh of vetted Northstar customers — not a public warmup pool that also warms whoever paid $99 for a Gmail farm. Every send is scored against the receiving inbox's reputation graph before it leaves. Your domain doesn't collapse at month three because the system is built so it can't. This is the moat. It is hard to copy because nobody else thinks deliverability is the product.

"We replaced our first SDR seat with Northstar in week one of seed funding. Two months in, our domain reputation is still A+ and we've booked 31 meetings. I have not heard the words 'reply rate' come out of a junior rep's mouth in my entire career."

"I tried 11x before this. Six weeks in, our open rates fell off a cliff. We thought it was the copy. It wasn't — it was their shared SendGrid pool. Switched to Northstar, kept the exact same drafts, deliverability climbed back to 92%+ in two weeks."

"We replaced two SDR seats and reinvested the $190k in product. The AI reps don't churn, don't ramp, don't ask for equity, and book at a higher rate than the SDRs we let go. This is what Crunchbase will eventually call 'the GTM unbundling.'"
